Week 1
Reviewed by Dr. Humaira Latif, OB-GYN & Ultrasound Specialist
Welcome to week 1 of your pregnancy. Here’s a gentle look at what to expect at 1 weeks pregnant — baby’s size, changes in your body, common 1 weeks pregnant symptoms and a caring tip from Dr. Humaira.
Baby's size
No baby yet — pregnancy is dated from the first day of your last period.
What's happening
Your body is shedding the previous cycle's uterine lining. Egg maturation for this cycle is just beginning in your ovaries.
Your body
You're on your period. Hormone levels are at their lowest of the cycle.
Common symptoms
- Menstrual bleeding
- Cramping
- Fatigue
- Unusually heavy bleeding soaking a pad every hour
- Severe pelvic pain
If you're actively trying to conceive, start a daily folic acid supplement (400–600 mcg) now — it protects baby's neural tube in the earliest weeks.
