Week 6
Reviewed by Dr. Humaira Latif, OB-GYN & Ultrasound Specialist
Welcome to week 6 of your pregnancy. Here’s a gentle look at what to expect at 6 weeks pregnant — baby’s size, changes in your body, common 6 weeks pregnant symptoms and a caring tip from Dr. Humaira.
Baby's size
About the size of a lentil — 4mm.
What's happening
Baby's heart is beating (often visible on early ultrasound). Tiny buds for arms and legs are appearing.
Your body
Morning sickness typically peaks between weeks 6 and 12 — it can strike any time of day.
Common symptoms
- Nausea and vomiting
- Extreme fatigue
- Food aversions
- Heightened smell
When to call your doctor
- Unable to keep any food or fluids down for 24 hours (hyperemesis)
- Heavy bleeding
- Severe abdominal pain
Dr. Humaira's tip
Keep dry crackers by your bedside and eat a few before sitting up — an empty stomach makes nausea worse.
