Week 21
Reviewed by Dr. Humaira Latif, OB-GYN & Ultrasound Specialist
Welcome to week 21 of your pregnancy. Here’s a gentle look at what to expect at 21 weeks pregnant — baby’s size, changes in your body, common 21 weeks pregnant symptoms and a caring tip from Dr. Humaira.
Baby's size
The size of a carrot — about 26.7cm (measured head to heel now).
What's happening
Baby's movements are becoming stronger and more coordinated. Eyebrows and eyelids are fully formed. Baby is starting to build up small fat reserves.
Your body
You may notice increased hunger as baby's growth accelerates.
Common symptoms
- Stronger, more frequent movement
- Increased appetite
- Stretch marks
- Occasional heartburn beginning
- Reduced fetal movement
- Severe or persistent heartburn with chest pain
- Heavy bleeding
If heartburn is starting, smaller more frequent meals and avoiding lying down right after eating usually help more than any medication — ask your doctor before taking anything.
