Second Trimester

Week 25

Reviewed by Dr. Humaira Latif, OB-GYN & Ultrasound Specialist

Welcome to week 25 of your pregnancy. Here’s a gentle look at what to expect at 25 weeks pregnant — baby’s size, changes in your body, common 25 weeks pregnant symptoms and a caring tip from Dr. Humaira.

Baby's size

The size of a cauliflower / rutabaga — about 34.6cm.

What's happening

Baby is gaining weight steadily and developing more defined fat layers, making the skin look less wrinkled. Baby responds to your voice and familiar sounds with movement.

Your body

Backaches may increase as your center of gravity continues shifting.

Common symptoms

  • Strong movement
  • Backache
  • Hemorrhoids possible
  • Occasional heartburn
When to call your doctor
  • Reduced fetal movement
  • Regular contractions
  • Rectal bleeding with severe pain (vs. common, milder hemorrhoid discomfort)
Dr. Humaira's tip

Sleeping on your left side with a pillow between your knees can ease both backache and pressure on major blood vessels as your bump grows.
