Week 28
Reviewed by Dr. Humaira Latif, OB-GYN & Ultrasound Specialist
Welcome to week 28 of your pregnancy. Here’s a gentle look at what to expect at 28 weeks pregnant — baby’s size, changes in your body, common 28 weeks pregnant symptoms and a caring tip from Dr. Humaira.
Baby's size
The size of a large eggplant — about 37.6cm. Welcome to the third trimester.
What's happening
Baby's eyes can open and close, and can blink in response to light. Baby is gaining weight quickly now and settling into a more regular position. From this week on, doctors often recommend daily kick counting.
Your body
You may need more frequent prenatal visits from here (often every 2 weeks until week 36, then weekly).
Common symptoms
- Very active movement
- Backache
- Swelling
- Shortness of breath
- Trouble sleeping/finding comfortable positions
- Reduced fetal movement (start daily kick counts if you haven't already)
- Regular painful contractions
- Severe headache, vision changes, or sudden swelling (pre-eclampsia signs)
This is the week to start daily kick counting if your doctor recommends it — the Trackers tab in this app has a kick counter built in for exactly this.
