Week 29
Reviewed by Dr. Humaira Latif, OB-GYN & Ultrasound Specialist
Welcome to week 29 of your pregnancy. Here’s a gentle look at what to expect at 29 weeks pregnant — baby’s size, changes in your body, common 29 weeks pregnant symptoms and a caring tip from Dr. Humaira.
Baby's size
The size of a butternut squash — about 38.6cm.
What's happening
Baby's muscles and lungs continue maturing. Brain growth is rapid now, and baby can regulate body temperature a little better. Baby's movements may feel stronger but more cramped as space gets tighter.
Your body
Backaches and fatigue often increase. You may feel more breathless as your uterus pushes up against your lungs.
Common symptoms
- Strong, sometimes uncomfortable movement
- Backache
- Shortness of breath
- Swelling
- Trouble sleeping
- Reduced fetal movement
- Regular painful contractions
- Severe headache, vision changes, or sudden swelling
If sleep is difficult, try propping yourself up slightly with extra pillows — lying flat can worsen shortness of breath in the third trimester.
