Week 31
Reviewed by Dr. Humaira Latif, OB-GYN & Ultrasound Specialist
Welcome to week 31 of your pregnancy. Here’s a gentle look at what to expect at 31 weeks pregnant — baby’s size, changes in your body, common 31 weeks pregnant symptoms and a caring tip from Dr. Humaira.
Baby's size
The size of a coconut — about 41.1cm.
What's happening
Baby's central nervous system is maturing, allowing better control of body temperature and movement patterns. Baby is likely settling into a head-down position, though there's still time to shift.
Your body
You may feel increasingly tired as your body carries more weight.
Common symptoms
- Strong movement
- Backache
- Swelling
- Frequent urination returning (as baby drops lower later on)
- Trouble sleeping
- Reduced fetal movement
- Regular contractions
- Severe swelling with headache
It's normal for baby's position to still change at this stage — don't worry yet if you're told baby isn't head-down; there's time before it matters for delivery planning.
