Welcome to week 34 of your pregnancy. Here’s a gentle look at what to expect at 34 weeks pregnant — baby’s size, changes in your body, common 34 weeks pregnant symptoms and a caring tip from Dr. Humaira.

Baby's size

The size of a cantaloupe — about 45cm.

What's happening

Baby's lungs are nearly mature. The protective waxy vernix coating is thickening. Baby is likely in a head-down position by now, though some settle later.

Your body

Group B Strep (GBS) screening is often done around weeks 35–37 — ask your doctor if this is planned.

Common symptoms

  • Strong movement
  • Pelvic pressure
  • Backache
  • Swelling
  • Increasing fatigue
When to call your doctor
  • Reduced fetal movement
  • Regular contractions 5 minutes apart or closer
  • Fluid leaking
