Week 36
Reviewed by Dr. Humaira Latif, OB-GYN & Ultrasound Specialist
Welcome to week 36 of your pregnancy. Here’s a gentle look at what to expect at 36 weeks pregnant — baby’s size, changes in your body, common 36 weeks pregnant symptoms and a caring tip from Dr. Humaira.
Baby's size
The size of a papaya / large melon — about 47.4cm.
What's happening
Baby is considered 'early term' from 37 weeks. Fat layers continue building for temperature regulation after birth. Baby's position (head-down, breech, or transverse) becomes an important discussion point with your doctor now.
Your body
Weekly visits typically continue, often including a check of baby's position.
Common symptoms
- Pelvic pressure
- Increased Braxton Hicks
- Difficulty finding comfortable sleep positions
- Swelling
- Regular painful contractions
- Reduced fetal movement
- Fluid leaking or gushing
- Bleeding
If your doctor mentions baby is breech at this stage, ask about your options — there's still some time for baby to turn, and there are safe ways to encourage this discussed with your doctor.
