Week 37
Reviewed by Dr. Humaira Latif, OB-GYN & Ultrasound Specialist
Welcome to week 37 of your pregnancy. Here’s a gentle look at what to expect at 37 weeks pregnant — baby’s size, changes in your body, common 37 weeks pregnant symptoms and a caring tip from Dr. Humaira.
Baby's size
The size of a stalk of Swiss chard / small watermelon — about 48.6cm. Baby is now considered 'early term.'
What's happening
Baby's organs are ready to function independently, though the brain continues developing rapidly even after birth. Baby is gaining fat steadily, giving that characteristic newborn roundness.
Your body
You may notice more pelvic pressure and possibly your first true signs of early labor approaching.
Common symptoms
- Pelvic pressure
- Increased Braxton Hicks
- Possible loss of mucus plug
- Backache
- Regular contractions 5 minutes apart for an hour
- Fluid leaking or gushing
- Reduced fetal movement
- Bright red bleeding
Losing your mucus plug or noticing 'bloody show' can be a sign labor is approaching in the coming days — but it can also happen well before labor actually starts. Either way, it's worth mentioning at your next visit or calling your doctor if you're unsure.
